OpenAI has marked Teachers’ Day in India with a new short film that explores how students can use ChatGPT as a learning companion, rather than relying on it to complete assignments for them. Set in a classroom, the film follows teachers noticing when submitted assignments appear different from a student’s usual work. As changes in writing style raise suspicion, teachers repeatedly remind students that they can recognise when something does not quite add up.
The film uses this familiar school dynamic to reinforce OpenAI’s message around responsible AI use in education: students should be able to understand and explain the work they submit, rather than simply have AI generate it. The campaign also highlights ChatGPT for Teens, which includes protections and features designed to support younger users. One of the key features is Study Mode, which takes students through problems step by step and uses questions to help them work towards an answer.
Other learning-focused features showcased include quizzes, Learning Visualizations and homework reminders. For families using linked teen accounts, OpenAI has also introduced controls such as Study Hours, which can enable Study Mode at specific times, along with Quiet Hours and break reminders. Through the Teachers’ Day film, OpenAI positions ChatGPT as a tool that can complement the learning process—helping students engage with concepts and build understanding rather than taking the place of their own work.
