Zomato finds a smart way to take its healthy subscription to HYROX with Khali

At a fitness event where brands are competing for attention alongside athletes, workouts and high-energy experiences, Zomato found an interesting way to make itself part of the action. The brand turned up at HYROX India with The Great Khali and built a set of challenges around one straightforward proposition: can you beat Khali?

The activation, positioned as a “Boss Level”, put participants up against the former WWE star in challenges including watermelon crushing, thumb wrestling and a high five that was quite literally out of reach. On the surface, the activities were designed for fun, but from a marketing perspective, the choice of Khali gave Zomato an immediate attention hook while keeping the interaction closely connected to the physical nature of HYROX.

The timing of the activation also worked in Zomato’s favour. Instead of creating a separate moment to talk about its recently launched Healthy Subscriptions, the brand found an ongoing conversation around fitness and inserted the product into it naturally. The HYROX environment already had an audience thinking about exercise, health and performance, giving Zomato a relevant setting to bring its health-focused subscription into the conversation. Participants who managed to beat Khali received ₹5,000 worth of Healthy Subscriptions on Zomato, turning the product message into part of the experience rather than simply another promotional communication.

The celebrity choice added another layer to the strategy. HYROX already attracts a fitness-focused crowd, but Khali brought an entirely different kind of attention to the activation. His recognisability made the challenge immediately understandable and gave people a reason to stop, participate and film what was happening.

That became particularly interesting when creators attending HYROX began joining in on the challenges themselves. The games were simple enough to participate in and visually entertaining enough to become content, meaning Zomato did not have to rely entirely on its own social channels to amplify the activation. Creators who had come to the event for HYROX were now also creating and sharing content around Zomato and Khali, giving the brand additional organic visibility from an audience that was already producing content from the event.

This is where the activation moves beyond a conventional event presence. Zomato created a moment that could attract people offline, give them something worth participating in and then let the content travel online through the creators already at the event. The combination of Khali, easily understood challenges and a relevant product reward gave the brand multiple layers of engagement without making the execution feel like a traditional product demonstration.

For Zomato, the HYROX activation shows how an existing cultural or sporting moment can become a marketing opportunity when the brand finds a natural role within it. The brand used the fitness conversation to put its latest health subscription in context, while the presence of Khali and creator participation helped turn a physical activation into content that could live beyond the event itself.
