Nexus Select Malls’ ‘Asli Happyness Wali Diwali’ Captures the Festive Buzz Before Diwali

Diwali celebrations often begin long before the lights go up and the festivities officially start. From getting ready together and making rangolis to playful sibling moments at home, the days leading up to the festival have their own charm. Nexus Select Malls brings these familiar experiences to the forefront with ‘Asli Happyness Wali Diwali’, a brand film that celebrates the excitement of preparing for the festival just as much as Diwali itself.

Set in a residential neighbourhood, the film follows families as they get their homes and themselves ready for the occasion. A mother and daughter share a moment in front of a mirror, a father helps his daughter make a rangoli, and a younger brother interrupts his influencer sister while she films a festive reel. Each scene captures a different side of the build-up to Diwali, drawing on everyday family interactions rather than grand festive spectacle.

The neighbourhood becomes an important part of the storytelling. Balconies and windows connect the different households, allowing the film to move naturally between their preparations and traditions. Its multilingual treatment adds another layer to the narrative, reflecting the different ways families experience and celebrate the festival.

Rather than treating Diwali as a single day of celebration, the campaign focuses on the anticipation that makes the occasion special. Nexus Select Malls connects these moments at home with the experience of heading out for festive shopping, gifting and dining. The mall visit becomes part of the celebration itself, extending the campaign’s idea of happiness beyond the household and into shared experiences outside it.

Nishank Joshi, chief marketing officer at Nexus Select Malls, explained the thinking behind the campaign, saying: “For us, the opportunity begins when people start looking forward to Diwali. A family outing is already part of the celebration, even if the festival is still days away. That gives Nexus a meaningful role in the build-up.
Creatively, we wanted to preserve the personality of each home which includes the banter, the rituals and the little differences people recognise from their own lives. The neighbourhood brings those stories together, allowing one campaign idea to speak to many audiences. We want people to leave home for Nexus feeling that their Diwali has already begun and the Asli Happyness that people get in getting ready for it.”

The film is part of a wider festive campaign that extends across multimedia advertising, social media, influencer activity, festive décor, in-mall experiences, shopper activations and topical content. These initiatives carry the campaign’s central message into the mall environment, giving shoppers opportunities to engage with the festive theme beyond the film.

For retail brands, festive marketing is often about capturing attention during a period crowded with promotions and seasonal messaging. Nexus Select Malls takes a more experience-led route, focusing on the small rituals and relationships that make Diwali meaningful before the main celebration begins. By connecting that emotional build-up with shopping, gifting and dining, the campaign gives the mall a place in the wider festive journey rather than presenting it simply as a shopping destination. Its strongest idea is that the feeling of celebration does not have to wait for Diwali day; it can begin with the preparations, the people and the moments that bring everyone together.
