Uber is turning a familiar expression of surprise into a new brand mnemonic with its latest campaign for the First Ride Free offer. Created with Talented and Bang Bang Films, the campaign transforms everyday “Ooooo” moments into “Ooooober” when consumers discover the offer. The idea plays on the instinctive reaction people have when something unexpectedly good happens. Across a series of short films and social-first executions, that reaction becomes the creative device connecting different situations to Uber’s offer for eligible new riders.

One film opens with a casual yodelling moment at a chai tapri before the protagonist discovers the First Ride Free offer. Another follows a woman singing while playing with her cat, with the familiar “ooo” eventually turning into the campaign’s Uber-specific expression.

“Oooooo is the sound of discovery. The sound of delight. The sound of getting a first ride free. And now it is the sound of Uber. Whether you’re yodelling at a chai tapri or petting your cat, every Oooo turns into Uber when you spot the First Ride Free offer,” said Spandan Mahajan and Udit Joshi, creatives at Talented. The campaign uses the same idea across multiple ride categories, with the First Ride Free offer available to eligible new riders across bike, auto and car.

Arjun Kalra, head of marketing, Uber India and South Asia, said, “First Ride Free gives eligible new riders a simple reason to experience Uber for the first time, across bike, auto, and car. We wanted to make the offer distinctive and bring it to life in a way that felt unmistakably Uber. ‘Ooooober’ turns the instinctive reaction to a great deal into a memorable expression that can travel across ride options and value moments.”

The films were designed as 15-second spots, with each execution built around a different premise. Director Ryan Mendonca said the approach was to establish the audio cue first and build the visual treatment around it, keeping the storytelling simple rather than heavily directed. “My approach was to anchor each shot aurally and then work the visuals around it. We kept things simple and decided not to over direct the stories. Team Talented and Uber were great partners. They let us bring our own brand of crazy to the party.”

With “Ooooober”, Uber is giving a straightforward promotional offer a recognisable verbal hook, turning the reaction to a good deal into a repeatable part of the brand’s advertising language.
